Fill 1,000 Seats
Shortly after the presidential election, we read that Democrats lost more than 1,000 legislative seats
between 2008 and 2016. We have since learned that this is a bit of an exaggeration and that every
president's party loses seats during the term. But we were shocked by the numbers and implications.
We also realized that getting democrats elected at all levels would be a positive focus for our anger,
fear and disgust at the new administration. Not instead of demonstrations, letters, petitions and
phone calls, but in addition to these actions.

The quilt focuses on the idea that we need to fill 1,000 seats with progressive democracts at every level of government to restore some sanity and decency to the nation. There may not be exactly 1,000 chairs on the quilt, but we came close to that number in the custom-designed and printed wallpaper fabric. Check out the floor fabric for more of our ideas about the current political situation.
Please work, vote and participate to fill legislative seats. We can do it!

I collaborated on this quilt with my friend Fran Sharp, artist and quilter extraordinaire. Visit her blog to see her work:

Two Trees, 2014
Made with a variety of materials including cotton, silks, plastic, tyvec and paper.
Sold.

Winter, September 2014
Bark, fabric and other materials sewn and glued on a small quilt.

Pumpkins, 2010.
I started with a photo, sketched, then used fusible applique and free motion quilting.
The oak leaves are dimensional, above the surface of the quilt.

Spring, 2012
I created smooth progressions of color and added the bars plus beads
to show the colors and sparkle of spring.

Angles and Curves, 2013
The flannel fabric gives the colors and dense richness that I love.
The design is so angular so I made the quilting curvy.

Happy Bird Day Dad.
Fusible applique birds, one for each member of my Dad's family for his 85th birthday.

Jordan's Quilt, 2011
Twin size bed quilt made in an Amish style design.

Second Quilt. 2007.
Another quilt inspired by Sandi Cummings' book.
